Building a community of writers is an essential component of Writing Workshop. Children learn early on that they can work together to help each other become even stronger writers. These kindergartners are learning about being “positive partners.” Here, they help each other make their writing easier to read by stretching out hard-to-spell words and putting down all the sounds they hear. During today’s mini-lesson, their teacher, Miss Delic, demonstrated with a student volunteer exactly how to be a positive partner. With clear modeling and high expectations, our young writers continue to do amazing things and are learning skills upon which they will build each successive year in school.
